Rather than focusing on the classical form of Mendelssohn's works, Karajan's expression emphasizes color and dynamism, creating a world unique to him. Especially in the "Scottish" symphony, the flowing lyricism that makes you sigh throughout is admirable, and the wonderful sound of the "Dresden Amen" theme in the first movement of the "Reformation" symphony (later used by Wagner as the "Grail Motif" in "Parsifal") that even exudes a sense of mystery is a true hallmark of Karajan.
