This is an Oribe-yaki tea bowl made by the ceramic artist Shoka Kato, produced in the late Showa to early Heisei periods. As indicated by the inscription "Chrysanthemum Design September" on the box, this seasonal tea bowl was created with early autumn (September) in mind, and the chrysanthemum design is depicted with gold accents in a華やか (gorgeous/splendid) manner. While based on the techniques of Oribe-yaki, the elegant and colorful expression gives this bowl the impression of "Kyo-yaki style," which is favored in tea ceremonies in Kyoto. This item is new and unused, having been carefully stored in its original box since purchase. There are no chips or cracks, and it is in very good condition.
