Regarding the Iida Footwear store items, there are some areas that have become whitish, so please take a look. One is genuine Aizu paulownia, a local specialty. The other seems to be made of magnolia wood, and has a rain cover called a tsume-kake or tsume-gawa. It seems that a rubber string is hooked on the back tooth when used. Since they are old, the craftsmanship may be better than recent ones. Please use them with a yukata (summer kimono) for bon odori (盆踊り, a type of Japanese folk dance), fireworks displays, and festival viewing.
