Being a solid color, it has a clean look, and the unique "kifushi" (warp knots) create a three-dimensional effect. It is also characterized by its thick and supple texture. Riiichi Urano created a wide range of works, including tsumugi, yuzen, and bingata. Among them, "Tatefushi Tsumugi" (warp-knot tsumugi), woven with knotted yarn, is his representative work. He passed away in 1991 at the age of 90. His collection and materials were inherited by his son, Norio. However, the workshop closed because the "hyotan-ito" (gourd thread), a knotted yarn made by spinning raw silk, became unavailable.
