【Authentic】Rinzai Sect / 22nd Abbot / Myoshin-ji Temple Kancho / Daiko Furukawa / Five-Character One-Line Calligraphy / 【Reference】 Daiko Furukawa (Furukawa Taiko) Religious figure of the Showa period, former Kancho of the Rinzai Sect Myoshin-ji school; Chief Priest of Seiken-ji Temple. Born May 10, 1871 (Meiji 4), died October 26, 1968 (Showa 43). Born in Yoshida-machi, Chichibu-gun, Saitama Prefecture. Other names = Reinan-shitsu. Entered Seiken-ji Temple in Okitsu, Shizuoka Prefecture in 1884 (Meiji 17), and received tonsure. From 1892 (Meiji 25), he trained at Myoshin-ji Temple, and became the chief priest of Seiken-ji Temple in 1917 (Taisho 6). In 1932 (Showa 7), he became the General Secretary of the Rinzai Sect, in 1937 (Showa 12) the General Supervisor of Missionary Work in China for the same sect, and in 1952 (Showa 27) he was appointed the 22nd Kancho of the same sect, and was elected four times. During this time, he toured the country, and also visited holy sites around the world, including China, India, America, Europe, and the Middle East, and devoted himself to missionary work. He was strict about killing, and advised those who hunted or fished, "It is not good to kill living things. Why do you shoot things that are running away with a gun?" He himself never ate meat or fish, and remained single throughout his life. 【Condition of the Work】 The main paper is a paper-based, hand-written work.
