This is a tea ceremony utensil, a Kogo (incense container), a Yellow Seto Zodiac Snake Kogo, made by Mizuno Ieyasu, the 15th generation of the Dogama kiln. While there is some evidence of use, it is in relatively good condition. The soft glaze of Yellow Seto, and the fresh, floating character for the zodiac sign, the snake (巳). Also, the snake's form is expressed with serene lines, as if it breathes life within the incense container. The snake has been a symbol of rebirth, shedding of skin, and fortune since ancient times. This is a masterpiece that captures that mysterious power along with the warm texture of Yellow Seto in the incense container.
