This item was stored in the storehouse at my parents' home. As it is an old item, there are scratches, dirt, etc. It comes with keys (2). Regarding the key on the left side of the front in photo 3, the lid opens when you slide the knob to the left and the stopper moves up. When you turn the key shown in photo 3 clockwise, the knob will not move and the lock will engage. In photo 4, the spring for the stopper is weak, so the knob does not move up with force when you slide it. In photo 7, there is ink staining on the bottom of the pen holder.
