Ten one-gō masu (measuring boxes), each stamped with "Good Fortune" (招福) on the front and "Sōhonzan Chishaku-in" (総本山智積院) on the back. These have been in my possession for over 20 years. Their origin is unknown. They have likely been used at least once. Three appear relatively new, while the others show signs of age (ambering of the wood) and minor scratches. Cleaned and dried. Size (with approximately 1mm variation): Outer dimensions: Width/Depth 84mm x Height 53mm Inner dimensions: Width/Depth 64mm x Depth 42mm The wood grain is clear, so it might be cedar. ★ 10 gō (1 shō) for "Always smiling, prosperous for life" (Always smiling (1 + 2 + 2 = 5 gō) one shō (10 gō) prosperous (half shō: 5 gō)) ★ 7 gō for "Always smiling, increasingly good fortune" (1 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 7 gō) ★ 5 gō for "Spring, Summer, Five gō, Winter" (Business prosperity) These are popular as good luck charms for good fortune.
