This is an old suzuri-byōbu (inkstone screen) that was at my home. Both of my parents practiced calligraphy, so they cherished it. Originally, it seems to have been used to hide the hands when grinding ink, but to the untrained eye, it feels like a beautiful ornament with a balance of a landscape painting and a background that is a mix of pale blue and milky white. The window-like design, the placement of lions on both ends, and the overall elaborate shape are also lovely. Although there is some roughness like in the last two photos, I think it's almost without scratches. Please take a look at the photos.
