This is a Bizen-yaki matcha tea bowl that I kept at my parents' house! Although it doesn't have a special box, the potter's mark suggests it's by Zenji Uragami. Beautiful "hidasuki" (flame markings) and a powerful foot. It's a piece I really love, but I'm selling it due to clearing out my parents' house. I hope someone who appreciates it will take it! It's new and unused, but please consider purchasing it with the understanding that it has been stored at home for a long time, as mentioned above! Size... Diameter: approx. 9.5 cm Height: approx. 7.5 cm *Please forgive any errors due to amateur measurements. ■About the Artist (Zenji Uragami) Mr. Zenji Uragami (1914-2006) was born in Ibe and entered the world of pottery under the tutelage of Mr. Shunko Nishimura. In 1935, he became a disciple of Mr. Seibo Kitamura, a member of the Japan Art Academy, and studied sculpture. He also studied wood carving under Mr. Shin Naito and drawing under Mr. Saburo Okada and Mr. Sakujiro Okubo. He specialized in lifelike animal figurines, bronze statues, and ceramic walls. His main works include the ceramic wall at Okayama Airport, the Oyamameijin ceramic panel at the Kurashiki Geibunkan, the bust of Toyo Kaneshige at the Bizen Pottery Museum, and the ceramic statue of Lord Takatoku Kojima in Tsuyama City. In 1973, his cow figurine won the gold prize at the 300th anniversary of Le Salon. In the same year, he became a holder of the Okayama Prefectural Designated Important Intangible Cultural Property. He passed away in March 2006. Awards received...
