Sacred Mount Fuji • Mount Fuji Faith 【 Fujisan Komitake Shrine 】 Mount Fuji Rainbow Charm 【 Details 】 Fujisan Komitake Shrine is located at the fifth station of Mount Fuji. It was founded in 937 (during the Shohei 7 era) at the summit of Mount Komitake, a sacred site for mountain worship, and a shrine hall was built in 1465. Mount Komitake is an older mountain than Mount Fuji. Mount Komitake and Old Fuji repeatedly erupted, forming the current shape of Mount Fuji. The area around the fifth station is called "Tengu's Garden" because of the legend that it was ruled by tengu (long-nosed goblins). Komitake Tarobo Shojin, a tengu, is enshrined as the god of safe passage.
