As the brand name suggests, the logo is marked by two overlapping "S"s. Shawn Stussy retired as a designer from Stussy in 1996 and lived a life centered around surfing on the island of Kauai, Hawaii. After about 15 years of making surfboards, he created S/DOUBLE as a new platform for expression. In 2011, he opened S/DOUBLE Studio, the first shop, in Santa Barbara, California.
