HEMP / Hand-dyed fabric by a Hmong artist from a mountain minority group, width 34cm, length approx. 1.5m. This is a traditional textile of the Hmong people, a mountain minority group living across the Golden Triangle region where the borders of Thailand, Burma, and Laos meet. This valuable, one-of-a-kind piece is a collaboration between this traditional fabric and hand-drawn batik by a young, contemporary artist. Currently, the number of weavers is decreasing, making this a rare and high-quality item. We purchase directly from a long-standing trading partner of 30 years in the local Hmong community. It is widely used for clothing, bags, obi for kimono, noren (shop curtains), and small items. In recent years, prices have been rising every six months, and we are unsure how long we can continue to offer it. The Hmong people's traditional mountain life and culture are also undergoing significant changes, and weaving one roll of approximately 7 meters takes about a week, a very laborious process.
