This is a prop used in a famous Japanese magic trick called "Married Couple's Drawer." I've confirmed the mechanism works, but I don't have the original ball (tama), so I haven't been able to test the performance. However, I tried it with a magic ball used for the "cups and balls" trick, and I was able to make the ball disappear when placed in the bottom drawer. I cannot show the secret mechanism in the photos.
