Please check the images for details. Kutsui Hamano An outstanding swordsmith of the mid-Edo period. Born in Genbun 1 (1736). He lived in Kanda-Koyanagicho, Edo, and studied under the first Masatsui Hamano. He incorporated the high-relief color painting of the Hamano school and the nikugori-bori (flesh-carving) style of Joi Sugiura. Died on August 29, Tenmei 7 (1787), at the age of 52. His common name was Chugoro. His art names included Bosoken and Gaiundo. This work is a superb masterpiece, expressing the artist's specialty, created with excellent sukidashi-bori (relief carving) and high-relief gold and silver painting.
