Velcro is attached to the back. The Arrows is a preamp-like booster that uses an all-discrete circuit. It was originally developed to be placed before distortion effects to add another channel of distortion. It's also effective for improving the sound of muddy and dark neck pickups, and for improving the clarity of sound when using distortion effects. Simultaneously adding gain tightens the low and mid frequencies, and adds sharp harmonics to the high frequencies, making it ideal when you want an extra push from your tube amp.
