This film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film and the Golden Globe Award for Best Animated Feature Film, and won the Annie Award for Best Animated Feature-Independent and the Japan Academy Prize for Animation of the Year. These are original novels written by director Mamoru Hosoda.
