I think it can be worn in both casual and more formal settings. It's 100% cotton and the fabric is very sturdy and thick. I bought it for my husband at Keikyu Department Store, but it seems it wasn't to his liking, and he didn't wear it much, maybe only a few times. Therefore, there are no scratches or stains.
