This is called "twisting" (yori). If no twist is applied, the durability will be weak and it will break easily. A towel with minimal twist is called "loosely twisted" (amari). Because loosely twisted towels have less twist, there are gaps within each fiber, resulting in a fluffy and voluminous towel. It holds a lot of air, so it has good water retention and excellent absorbency. This is a voluminous bath towel with a good texture. This is a certified product of the "Imabari Towel Brand." Not all towels produced in Imabari can bear the Imabari Towel mark. It is a mark awarded only to those that have passed strict quality inspections. In other words, products with the certification mark are proof of high quality among towels made in Imabari, having cleared stringent standards.
