This is Hotei, one of the Seven Lucky Gods, from the late Edo period to the Meiji era. Seeing his smiling face and plump body with a fan on his head makes me smile too, and I think it can make you feel happy just by looking at it. The carving is also well-made and richly colored, and the condition is good, with only a little white wear on the top of the fan, considering its age.
