SYD MEAD, an American industrial designer who designed numerous works such as the films Blade Runner, Tron, Alien, and the Japanese Gundam. This is "essence," a wristwatch collection he designed in 2003 for the Japanese select shop NUTS. The word "essence" was chosen to pay respect to the universality that hardly changes even as times change. In designing it, he focused on analyzing the passage of time, which repeats in a 24-hour cycle, and expressing it graphically. Extracting the essence of time and dividing a day into blocks, for example, it can be divided into day and night, or working hours and rest hours.
