It was approved as a foundation by the Ministry of Education in 1956 (Showa 31) and as a public interest incorporated foundation by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology in 2012 (Heisei 24), and has been a pioneer in the field of Japanese music groups that have adapted to modern society. Currently, there are over 18,000 members (including inactive members) in 11 branches nationwide (including the American branch). Each member is working hard to improve their skills daily and is striving to promote and disseminate Japanese music through performances and teaching activities. The Seihaha school originated in 1913 (Taisho 2) when the first head, Gakuto Nakajima, founded a school in Nagano City. The publication of published musical scores, which was groundbreaking in the koto music world, and the qualification system based on examinations that also emphasized theory have been enriched year by year, and many excellent performers and teachers have been sent out into the world. In 2013 (Heisei 25), the Seihahogakukai celebrated its 100th anniversary, and on June 2 of the same year, it held the "Seiha Founding 100th Anniversary Commemorative Concert," which was a major event with over 1,000 performers.
