This is a handmade live bait rig, also known as a "nomase" fishing rig, and an elevator rig. The characteristic feature is that the total length of the rig is set to be slightly longer, prioritizing bites and preventing the baitfish from weakening. We recommend trying this not only when fish are highly active but especially when they are finicky biters. Commercial rigs have a narrow distance between hooks, but by widening this distance, even large fish can be baited. If the distance is too narrow, the assist hook can pierce vital areas of the baitfish, causing it to weaken, and if it's too short, the assist hook loses its purpose. Therefore, the distance between the main hook and the assist hook is set to approximately 20 cm, but please understand that there may be slight variations due to it being handmade. Furthermore, the main hook and assist hook are fixed, not movable, so they do not shift, reducing the chance of losing fish during the strike. The photos show landed flatfish, yellowtail, and other catches. We use Yozuri snap swivels (breaking strength: 12kg) and the Palomar knot for tying the line. The main hook is a KAWASEMI Chinu hook size 7, and the assist hook is size 5. A soft luminous bead is attached to the main hook to prevent the baitfish from biting into the hook. The leader is approximately 1.1m of SEAGUAR fluorocarbon line for boat fishing, size 8. The "Gake-musubi" (external knot) with ears is used for tying the hooks, as it offers a certain degree of strength and the hook tends to turn inward, making it easier for the fish to swallow. When baiting with small horse mackerel, small mackerel, Japanese pilchard, or shad, the main hook can be placed through the nose, mouth, or back, and the assist hook through the tail or back.
