This item is quite old, and the details are unknown. It has been stored in a home storage space for a long time and has yellowing and stains as shown in the photos. Please refrain from purchasing if you are a nervous buyer. Overall length: 194 x 54.5 Painting area: 114 x 41 Baisho Yamamoto (October 3, 1846 – February 24, 1921) was a Nanga painter of the Meiji and Taisho periods. "Baisho" was his art name; his given name was Kurazo, and his courtesy name was Shino. His first art name was "Hanshun." He was born in Tsurugasaki, Shinkawa Village, Hekikai District (present-day Tsurugasaki district, Shinkawa-cho, Hekinan City) [2][3]. As a child, he was adopted by the calligraphy and painting antique dealer Sozudo Yamamoto (whose given name was Kohei) and moved to Handa Village, Chita District (present-day Handa City, Aichi Prefecture) [2][3]. Later, he went to Kyoto and studied Nanga painting under Kanna Suo and Mitsuya Setsuen [1]. He received a commendation at the National Painting Exhibition in 1882, and won awards at various exhibitions and fairs. In 1912, he was appointed as a judge for the Ministry of Education Art Exhibition. His works are mostly landscape paintings. His eldest son, Sekiso, and his second son, Koun, also became painters. It should be noted that the Nanga painter Hanshun Fukushima, a former retainer of the Himeji clan who used seals such as Shoin and Shida, has a similar style of work and is often confused with Baisho Yamamoto, but they are different people.
