From Hoganas Keramik, Sweden, a stoneware cup & saucer. Vintage item from the 1958-1967 era Interior Collection Rare Light gray base with hand-painted navy blue lines. The series is named after the Oresund / Øresund (Øre Strait), the strait separating Denmark and Sweden. The varying intensity of the blue lines and the irregular edges created by the brushstrokes abstractly represent the vast sea surface, the horizon, and ripples. It evokes the expression of a blue sky or a cloudy sky. The design is by a leading Swedish female designer: Signe Persson-Melin (1925- ) She established her own studio in 1951 (at the age of 26). Her style, influenced by folk crafts, brings out the best in the materials and leaves behind designs that are natural and memorable. Currently, she is the first female professor at her alma mater, the University of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, and contributes to the development of the next generation. With traditional stoneware techniques, including those used by ARABIA, and simple painting, it can be used for both Japanese and Western cuisine. Due to the large diameter, it is suitable for coffee, tea, and also soup. Although there are signs of use over time, there is no damage.
