I have confirmed the operation of this item using 5 size-D batteries and 6 size-AA batteries for this listing. It moves left, right, forward, and backward. The right turn signal worked, but the left did not. The warranty card indicates it was purchased in December 1978. The box is damaged, but the main body appears to have no noticeable damage. The forward/reverse stick on the transmitter is broken. I operated it by directly pressing it with my thumb, and it worked.
