This is a "Gosuyunomi" (blue and white porcelain teacup) by Kanjiro Kawai, a popular potter nationwide. Born in 1890 (Meiji 23), Kanjiro, along with Soetsu Yanagi and Shoji Hamada, initiated the Mingei (folk art) movement, pursuing the beauty of everyday utensils. In 1929, he held the "Beauty of Everyday Mingei Exhibition" at Takashimaya, which drew a large response. Around this time, Kanjiro stopped signing his works. He felt he needed to create pieces that could be recognized without a signature. This work is an excellent example embodying the beauty of everyday utensils in Mingei and is considered an early work that should be preserved for posterity. This is a small, tasteful yunomi by Kanjiro, with a truly rich use of Gosu (cobalt blue). It could also be used as a guinomi (sake cup). Considering its age, it is in very good condition (probably unused). *Please check the condition in the images. 【Size】 Diameter 5.5cm, Height 6.8cm Without a matching box, and currently unauthenticated, it is being offered at a low price. The last image shows a Gosuyunomi from the Kyoto National Museum of Modern Art (Kawakatsu Collection) for your reference. First come, first served. Thank you. *Originally, it is believed to be one of a set of five Kanjiro Gosuyunomi. There are three more of the same item, so please consult via comment before purchasing if you wish to buy them together. We recommend creating a "set of three boxes" for bulk purchases, or a "set of two boxes" for a pair of teacups. Type... Pottery Type... Yunomi (teacup)
