[Material] Single piece of Shinano Hinoki ✩ One corner is beveled, making it slightly easier to lift. [Advantages] ✩ I believe that a cutting board is best [unpainted], so I've finished it with a hand plane to achieve this. The chamfered parts are also finished using well-sharpened blades. First, it's planed, then wetted with water to raise the grain, and after drying, it's planed again, so I think the grain raising due to water exposure during use is minimized. Also, the end grain, which is usually difficult to plane, is also finished with a plane. This allows water to drain in the shortest amount of time without trapping grain or sanding marks, minimizing wood degradation due to water absorption. ✩ I've predicted the direction in which the wood will warp and considered the blade contact, and I've slightly and gently shaped it with an R-shape to match the individual characteristics of the wood. This is also a technique that can only be done by hand planing. ✩ I haven't used any [sandpaper] in the production of the cutting board, so there's no worry about the remaining abrasive particles damaging your knives or ingesting sanding dust. ✩ The rough sandpaper finishes often seen these days, which appear smooth at first glance, become slippery when wet.
