U.S. Military Surplus During the 1940s, in the era of World War II, soldiers going off to war had a custom of giving accessories to their families and lovers back home. These were called sweetheart jewelry, and many featured designs of the soldiers' respective military branches, including rings, necklaces, bracelets, and brooches. This is a heart-shaped charm pendant with a U.S. Navy emblem. It has a base carved from the shell of an Akoya pearl oyster, known as mother-of-pearl, with clear acrylic layered on top, creating a three-dimensional design. I understand that the back has space for a photo. While there are some age-related scratches on the USN emblem and some slight dirt visible through the gaps in the acrylic, there is no significant damage, and the original chain remains. If you appreciate the vintage feel, the condition is quite good. It's also unusual in that it's slightly larger than the pendant tops of other sweetheart jewelry necklaces I have listed separately. Charm: 2.5 x 2.8 cm Chain length: 44 cm
