Tatoushi is a special wrapping paper for storing kimonos. The name varies depending on the region. It's called "tatoushi," "tatougami," "bunko-shi," "bunko-shi," or "bunko-gami," and there are many other names... (In some places, the name "tatoushi" may also refer to kaishi paper or clothing mats) The main roles of tatoushi are ① mold prevention, ② dust and dirt prevention, and ③ wrinkle prevention. ① Mold Prevention As the name suggests, tatoushi is made of paper, so it can be expected to absorb moisture. Humidity in drawers and closets can cause mold, so it's safe to wrap kimonos in tatoushi, which absorbs moisture. ② Dust and Dirt Prevention Even when stored in drawers and closets, dust and dirt will gradually accumulate. Wrapping kimonos in tatoushi prevents dust and dirt from directly accumulating on the kimono. ③ Wrinkle Prevention If you stack kimonos as they are or put them in paper bags, they tend to get extra wrinkles.
