It is said that the depth of color is achieved by applying a lime glaze to the Iwami clay and then, after thorough drying, applying a Gosu glaze. The handle uses a different clay from the body and has a smooth finish. The thickness also varies between the top and bottom, a unique detail of Mr. Moriyama's craftsmanship. *Please note that there may be variations in the glaze's color, surface irregularities, and areas where iron particles have surfaced. This is one of six mugs purchased about 5 years ago, and it has been stored unused as part of the Moriyama Gama collection. It is in very beautiful condition. ◉Moriyama Gama* is one of the three kilns of Onsen-tsu Ware. Masao Moriyama, the potter, became an apprentice of Kanjiro Kawai in 1957 and trained in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture.
