This is "Adam Bede," one of the representative novels by the British author George Eliot (real name Mary Ann Evans), originally published in February 1859. This English-language edition was published in 1999. It's a hardcover book with beautiful cover art. It appears to have been printed in Hungary, but all the text is in English. I am selling this book as I have multiple copies due to a house move. ✨ L.M. Montgomery of Canada also loved this book even before writing her debut work, "Anne of Green Gables" (known as "Akage no An" in Japan). Her handwritten diaries reveal her deep affection for it. Furthermore, in "Anne of Green Gables," "Mrs. Evans" appears as a professional reader. The protagonist, Anne, is an amateur reader, but the story is set so that she achieves even greater success than Mrs. Evans at the venue. Also, Anne makes a comment about Mrs. Evans not appearing happy, which seems to evoke Eliot's life and portraits, subtly introducing the beloved author. Moreover, one of the distinctive characters who adds color to the work immediately brings to mind a character from Adam Bede. Those who love Eliot will surely recognize it! Thank you for looking.
