This is an old katazome (stencil-dyed) hanhaba obi (half-width obi). The tasteful cotton fabric features a katazome design of peony-like flowers, which is very striking. I think it would look lovely paired with a simple tsumugi (pongee silk) or similar. It's about 4 meters long, so you should be able to do various obi knots. It has a moderate stiffness, but the core is missing from the te-saki (hand end) on one side, about 70cm from the edge. I wonder if it was made that way to make it easier to tie? I'm not sure. I don't think it will be a problem for use. There are no noticeable flaws, but as it is an old item, there may be some slight discoloration or signs of aging. Also, because it is katazome, there are some slight dye irregularities and areas with a faded look.
