It is the band's second self-titled album and is often referred to as III or Santana III to distinguish it from their 1969 debut album. It is also known as "The Man with the Extended Hand" because the album cover art is a reversed version of Arthur Lidov's painting published in the June 28, 1963 issue of LIFE magazine. It was the third and final album with the Woodstock-era lineup, which continued until their reunion in 2016 with "Santana IV."
