This is a refined "Unkin Maki-e" (cloud and brocade lacquer) tea caddy by Mitsuaki Iida. The exterior features a black lacquered base with a gathered finish, adorned with elegant gold and vermilion maki-e of spring cherry blossoms and autumn maple leaves, symbolically representing the beauty of nature across the seasons. The design, where the colors of the four seasons intermingle, adds both splendor and dignity to the tea ceremony. The interior and the inside of the foot are finished with a subdued silver ground, reminiscent of smoked silver. The contrast with the black lacquer is beautiful, creating a sense of depth.
