Stitched from the waist for about 37 cm, then flares naturally to the hem. It's a 14-panel skirt. Two layers of tulle are used at the hem, making it very light and easy to wear. I've worn it two or three times and had it dry cleaned each time, but I think it would be fine to hand wash if handled carefully. I loved it, but when I took it out recently, it was too small.
