The condition is good and undamaged, but there may be some fading due to age, so please understand this. The lighting was used when taking the photos, so it looks a bit reddish, but the actual color is a more subdued brown. The size is similar to a kogo (incense container), so I thought it might be a kogo, but the receiving side has a deep rise, and the lid side also covers it, so I think it's a kizami tabako-ire (tobacco container) rather than a kogo. It is a lucky shape, a symbol of wealth, and is finished with t溜-nuri (lacquer) except for the sides. The bamboo pattern is also lovely. Would it be a fashionable item? When displayed on a tabako-bon (tobacco tray), I imagine that the carved curve on the side matches the bamboo haifuki (ash receiver) and makes it easy to place. Of course, I think you could use it as a kogo, and no one would know. (lol) The artist is Soden Kuroda.
