The overall shape is plump, and the carving is smooth. This carving feels comfortable in the hand when held. The foot and the area around the foot are crisply fired, and their reddish color tightens the appearance of the vessel. This artist's carved Karatsu pieces are relatively rare. Yoshihiro Takishita (1958-2007) succeeded Koetsu Takishita, the second generation of Koetsu Kiln, and specialized in E-Karatsu (painted Karatsu) and inlaid Seito-Karatsu (blue Karatsu). He was expected to be a leading artist of the next generation of Karatsu ware, but he passed away prematurely in 2007.
