This is a set of two hand-painted plates featuring the ancient rose design from Fukagawa Seiji, a kiln that is a purveyor to the Imperial Household Agency and known for Arita-yaki porcelain. Size: Diameter: Approximately 15.5cm Height: Approximately 2.5cm (Please note that these measurements are approximate due to amateur inspection.) The plates do not come with a box. Currently, Fukagawa Seiji only produces coffee cups in the ancient rose series, making these plates a valuable item. (The ancient rose coffee cups are sold for 110,000 yen each on the kiln's official online shop.) About the Ancient Rose Technique: Sometsuke (underglaze blue) is a traditional technique where cobalt pigment (gosu) is applied with a brush onto the unglazed bisque. Although the design appears simple, it requires meticulous craftsmanship and the skill of experienced artisans. This work expresses the elegant and refined appearance of roses through a sophisticated sometsuke technique that uses shading and blurring. Furthermore, it is finished by combining complex and advanced sometsuke techniques such as "tsukedami" (thickening), "fukikake" (spraying), and "sumi-hajiki" (ink-repelling). Please be aware of potential imperfections such as manufacturing spots, pinholes, unevenness in the dye, and minor scratches.
