They have gold decoration, so they are not microwave-safe. I have carefully checked them, and there are no scratches, chips, or noticeable stains. They are in good condition, but they are used items, so please understand this before purchasing. There are some spots (black dots) and lines on the inside, but this is a characteristic of the pottery. If you are concerned, please refrain from purchasing. There are cracks called "kannyu" (crazing). These are caused by the difference in shrinkage between the glaze and the clay body and are a characteristic of pottery.
