Purchased from an antique dealer in Tokyo. Approximately 19.5 cm on each side, height 3.7 cm. A very fine and dignified piece of Ko-sometsuke (old sometsuke). The shape is also wonderful, a high-rimmed, slightly warped, cornered square plate. The cobalt blue painted with firm brushstrokes, a beautiful landscape painted on the inside, and the expression of the cow is very interesting. This plate allows you to fully appreciate the quality unique to this era. A bird perched on a branch is painted on the reverse. Sand adhesion and kiln marks, these are also good features. There are the usual insect bites and shrinkage, but happily, it is undamaged.
