He became a priest at the age of 6, and after graduating from Hanazono University, he practiced Zen at the Sogen-do of Shokoku-ji Temple under Otsu Reido. In 1975, he became the 20th chief priest of Obai-in, a sub-temple of Daitoku-ji Temple, the head temple of the Rinzai sect. 【Zen Words】 Namu Amida Butsu "Namu" is a word used to express worship and respect, and it means "to take refuge in (to respect, to entrust)." "Amida" represents "infinite light, immeasurable life," and together they mean "eternal life." "Butsu" is a word that represents those who have attained enlightenment, originating from "Buddha," and it means "Buddha."
