Qing Dynasty Kangxi Inkstone with Box Reads "Made in the Kangxi era of the Great Qing Dynasty." This inscription, also known as a year mark, is found on inkstones created between 1662 and 1721. Most of the inkstones from that period have been donated to museums. However, due to historical circumstances where historical Chinese artifacts were brought to Japan during wartime, some are still held by collectors in Japan today, and this appears to be one such item. Currently, historical inkstones from China are increasing in value due to buybacks by Chinese individuals and the influence of local collectors. Furthermore, the intricate hand-carving makes them difficult to imitate, and the limited number of surviving pieces contributes to their rarity.
