This is a Mukouzuke (small bowl) purchased at an antique market. I liked the design of the "Kotobuki" (longevity) character in the center, so I brought it home. The "Kotobuki" is stylized into a diamond shape. On the window-shaped panels, morning glories and lattice patterns are depicted, separated by a broken line. The lattice work is also elaborate. The morning glories are drawn in a cute way. The panel without a frame features a gourd, one of the treasures. In the foreground is a bundle of rice ears. The rim pattern is a double, elaborate design. There are thunder patterns and shihou-tasuki (four-direction sash) patterns. The body has a arabesque pattern. A bird is perched on the connection to the adjacent arabesque, which is stylish. The craftsmanship is thin and skillful. 1. A hairline crack (nyu) on the body, resembling a bird's foot. 2.
