This is a free cloth made from antique, heavily stitched fabric. It was made by someone in the past using kimono fabric and flannel. The entire piece is covered in intricate sashiko stitching, indicating a tremendous amount of effort. It originates from the eastern region. Boro typically uses plain indigo-dyed or striped antique fabrics, but this one has a colorful combination of colors, making it very cute. I believe the material is cotton. It's strange to say "beautiful" for boro, but it's clean and in good condition. It has softened from washing, but there is little wear and tear, suggesting it hasn't been used much. It's useful as a bed cover, sofa cover, or even a lap blanket. The colors on both sides are still vibrant. The red side is the front. I think it will become very charming with use, so if it frays, please add more fabric and nurture it yourself. As it is antique fabric, I hope you enjoy the fading of the colors.
