This is a lighting fixture like those found in traditional high-class Japanese inns. It's a wooden ceiling light with a Japanese design. I believe it's from Koizumi. It's a rare item that's no longer available for purchase, as it doesn't come up in searches. It's an old piece, dating back about 50 years, and it can completely transform the atmosphere of a room. It still works perfectly fine. There is some paint peeling on the inside, but it's not noticeable unless you look closely. You could repaint it if you wish. The photos show it with two lights on.
