【On Sale!】 I love Honba Yuki-Tsumugi the most among all Tsumugi kimonos, and I've collected a lot of them. However, I'm reducing my collection due to a move from my parents' home. This is a striped Honba Yuki-Tsumugi woven on a traditional loom. Striped Tsumugi often has the characteristic large knots of Tsumugi, but Honba Yuki-Tsumugi has almost no knots (if there are large knots, it's considered a B-grade item), and it's characterized by a soft, matte feel due to the uneven thickness of the hand-spun yarn. As shown in the reference image, a Honba Yuki-Tsumugi with the exact same pattern design was sold for about 250,000 yen with a certification tag. According to the tag, this is indeed Honba Yuki-Tsumugi woven on a traditional loom. Also, because the certification tag is quite old, the quality of the yarn used seems to be very high. This item does not use Kasuri (ikat), so it is not a designated Important Intangible Cultural Property. Yuki-Tsumugi was originally called Hitachi-Tsumugi, and it was a simple and durable fabric without the patterns seen today. To improve and develop Yuki-Tsumugi, the technique of weaving stripes was adopted from Ueda-Tsumugi, and Yuki-Tsumugi wholesalers wove so many stripes that they were called "Striped Houses." The current image of Yuki-Tsumugi is a luxurious Tsumugi with a tortoise-shell Kasuri pattern, but I think wearing the "stripes" of the Striped Houses is a sophisticated way to enjoy it. The fabric feels like a Honba Yuki-Tsumugi woven on a traditional loom, with a soft yet firm touch. The lining is Tsumugi weave.
