This is a traditional Edo Tsumami Kanzashi (hair ornament). Product Condition: Used twice. No stains or scratches on the decoration. It has been stored at home, but I am selling it because I don't use it and would like to pass it on to someone who will cherish it. The item in the photo is an Edo Tsumami Kanzashi, a traditional craft of Tokyo. It is a work from the "Tsumami Kanzashi Museum" (Ishida Shoten). Takeshi Ishida is the director of the "Tsumami Kanzashi Museum" and the third-generation craftsman of Ishida Shoten. He is also certified as a "Shinjuku Monozukuri Meister, Master of Technique" in Shinjuku Ward. Tradition: He inherits the "tsumami" technique that has continued since the Edo period, folding thin silk fabric (habutae) with tweezers to create shapes such as flowers and birds. Rare Existence: Although there were many craftsmen in the past, it is said that there are only about 15 craftsmen in all of Japan who currently produce tsumami kanzashi using traditional techniques. Features of Edo Tsumami Kanzashi Material: Mainly "habutae," a silk fabric, is used. Technique: There are two basic folding methods: "maru tsumami" (round pinch) and "kaku tsumami" (square pinch). Uses: It is treasured for formal wear such as Shichi-Go-San (Children's Day), coming-of-age ceremonies, and weddings, as well as in traditional performing arts such as Kabuki and Japanese dance.
