This is a flower vase from Kendgun Kiln, Kodaiyaki ware. It is shaped like bamboo, with the front and back hollowed out, giving it a cool appearance. Kodaiyaki is pottery fired in the northern part of Kumamoto Prefecture, such as Arao City, Nankan Town, and Kumamoto City. It is also written as Shodaiyaki. It is said to have begun in 1632 when Hosokawa Tadatoshi, who was transferred from Buzen, brought along the first Gen-shichi of the Oshimoji family and the first Hachizaemon of the Katsuragi family, both potters, and had them make pottery at the order of the feudal lord.
