He became a priest at the age of 6 after losing his parents. Graduated from Hanazono University in 1961, and entered the Soken-so-do, where he practiced Zen under Ozu Rekido. Appointed as the chief priest of Obai-in, a sub-temple of Daitoku-ji Temple, in 1975. Enrolled in the Department of Social Welfare at Hanazono University in 1988.
